SCULLTNG.

ARNST VERSUS PEARCE. Received 31, 0.30 p.m. Sydney, July 31. Theru is much interest in the ArnstPearce race to-morrow, in view of Arnst's engagement with Webb. Both Siave put in a lot of training. It is reported they are in tip-top condition, and a hard struggle is expected. The weather conditions are not pro ruining. Frequent drenching showers continue. There is no sign of it clearing.

This will be Arnst's first match race. His efforts so far have been confined to handicap events, in which he has performed remarkably well for a novice, beating amongst others, •Fogwell and C. Towns. Dick Tressider, who rowed Webb a few months ago, regards the match as being by no means the moral for the big New Zealander that many believe it to be. Tressider ought to know as much about Pearco as anyone, as he rowed against him in 1904, m a match for the championship of Australia, Dick winning, but only after his opponent had made the pace at a great hut in the earlier stages. Pearce had ratlier a sensational experience recently, while training at the Spit, He wa* being paced by his brother, who was a couple of lengths ahead of Harry, when the latter was seen to suddenly disappear, his boat having collapsed with him in some unaccountable manner. The brother rowed back to the spot, but all he could do was to tow the wreckage, with Harry clinging thereto, to the beach, a half a mite away. The harbor often swarms with, man-eating sharks, but fortunately Harry got ashore without being at' tacked.
