ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

INQUEST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. I Wellington, Last Night. An inquest was held to-day on the body of Albert Shnpcott, fourth engineer of the ltuapehu, which was found in tlio harbor the other day. A verdict of accidental drowning was returned. On "the night that he was missed from the steamer the deceased had had live or six drinks.' Witnesses stated that ho 'was sober, but "merry." FOUND DEAD IN BED.

Dunedin, last Night, Mrs. Albert Johnstone, aged 34 years, residing in South Dunedin, was found dead in bed by her husband on retuning from work'at 7.30 this evening. Docensed had been suffering from pneumonia, and to-day had vomited a good deal of blood, evidently bursting •! liioud-vossel, as tlio result of a hea''.v lit of coughing.

DYNAMITE ACCIDENT. Auckland, East Night. A man named Herbert Waymouth, of Devouport, has been admitted to tne district hospital suffering from injuries ! to the eye and hands. When it is explained that he, was handling a dynamite cartridge which he believed to be useless it is unnecessary to say more, beyond the fact that he emerged with a pair of badly-cut bands, while his eye, which was struck by a Hying fragment, w.is seriously injured. It is not yet known whether he will lose the sight of his eyo.

SUDDEN DEATH. Auckland, Monday. A laboring man named William Jackson, aged 50, was found dead on the tloor of a bathroom at the Working Men's Club on Sunday. A doctor who was summoned stated that the man had been dead upwards of an hour. A medical examination showed that Jackson's death was due to syncope, probably caused by taking a hot bath immediately after'a hearty meal.

SAWMILL FATALITY. Levin, Monday. A fatal accident was caused at Bartholomew's mill by a knife flying out of a planing llia'cliino. It struck a worker named John Stanley Widdows on the side of the head, breaking bis jaw and neck. Death was instantaneous.
