TRANSVAAL'S GARRISON.
APPLYING THE 111UN1NG-KNIFE. Received 24, 9.55 p.m. Capetown, Julv 24. General Botha, Premier of the" Transvaal, states that he has strongly urged the Imperial Government to retain the garrison in the Transvaal. The Army Council declined to retain more than was necessary for defensive purposes, because it would dislocate the army's organisation and would aho cause extra expense.
