COLONIES AND MOTHERLAND.
:AN OVERSEA PRESS CONFERENCE SUGGESTED. London, July 17. Mr. H. .J. Tenimnt, member of the House of Commons, speaking before the Liberal Colonial Club, said he hoped that under ■ the wise guidance of Earl Crewe and Colonel Seeley the Colonial Oiiice would do something to give reality and permanency to the plan for a Secretariat of the imperial Conferences. Ho added that the club's object was to foster and stimulate a sympathetic intelligent attitude on colonial questions.
Lord Burnham presided nt tlie meeting. A committee was appointed to invite leading oversea journalists to an Imperial Press Conference. Lord Nortliclili'e was appointed lion, treasurer, Mr. C. A. Pearson chairman of the executive, and Mr. Harry Brittain hon. secretary of the committee. Many of the newspapers warmly Support the proposal to hold the conference.
