THE AUSTRALIAN K.CHKME. London, July 15. On the question of the Australian naval scheme, the First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr. It. McKeuna, informed Mr. John Redmond in the House of Commons that the Secretary for the Colonies. Earl Crewe, had given Mr. Deakin to understand that the scheme presented considerable difficulties from the standpoint of naval administration. Mr. McKenna reiterated.his Monday's state-. meat regarding the need for careful deliberation of the Commonwealth proposals, lie promised Mr. Austen Chamberlain that lie would, if possible, lay on the table the papers referring to the matter. Melbourne, July 18. The Federal Premier, Mr. A. Deakiu. referring to Mr. MvKciina's statement with reference to the Australian naval defence scheme, that the Admiralty was content with the present arrangement, must refer only to the currency of the present agreement and not to any period after its expiry. If a proposal were made for I lie renewal of the agreement as it stood, he was sure the Admiralty would want to say a good deal. He knew that some of the advisers of the Admiralty were anxious to terminal!! the agreement as it cost more than '.t was worth.
