OBITUARY.
A. A. HARNETT. By Telegraph.—l'rcss Association. Wellington, Last Night, Tlie death took place lust evening of Mr. A. A. Barnett, an old colonist, and a well-known commercial man in Wellington. The late Air. Barnett, who was 7C years of age, arrived in Australia in 1854, and for a time was settled in Victoria. He was a town councillor for Gecloug and took an active interest in local affairs. After a few years' residence in Victoria he came over to New Zealand and he had been connected with commercial affairs in this country since lusctirriral, being in business as a merchant at JJunediu in the gold mining days of the early sixties. Subsequently he begun busiuess as an auctioneer in Wellington, but for the last ten years he Had been living lii retirement, acting as assistant emigrition agent under the late Dr. Featnorston. Mr. Barnett went to England, returning in the ship Avalanche, and resuming business as an auctioneer, lie was an ardent Liberal in politics, :athough he never sougrt Parliamentary honors. As a member of the Licensing Bench and a Justice of tilie Peace, Mr.) Harnett did good public servec. Mrs. Barnotfc, who was a daughter of the lato Mr. Michael Joshua, pre-deccascd liim nine years ago, but his family survive Mm. They arc:—Mr. F. J. Barnett, the well-known surgeon in Dnncdiu; Mr. 13. J. Barnett, indent agtnt, Wellington; Mr. J. D. Barnett. Wanganui; Air. A. 11. Barnett, solicitor, Wellington; and Miss Barnett, the only daughter.
