CEREAL RETURNS.

A return is published iu to-night's (lazclte of the areas laid down in corn, grass, etc., in. tho Dominion and the fictiuil yields. Three months ago a return showing the estimated yield per acre of wheal, oats, and barley was published, and it is now interesting to compare this with the actual results, which show that the estimates .were framed on moderate lines. The wheat was estimated to yield 27 bushels per acre. The actual yield was
28 bushels; oats, estimated at 30 bushels, actual 38 bushels: barlev, estimated at 2!) bushels, actual 32 bushels. The iiri'ii for threshing lust season was 103.03! acres, compared with 200,185 fov tlic previous season, ami the total yield was 5.507,130 bushels, compared with 5.000,252 bushels the previous year. Canterbury was, of course, the great est wheat-producing district, am Hawke's Hay the lowest, though sharini with Tiiraiiuki the honor of highest aver age per acre (.14 bushels). The area in oats \yas 380,885 acres, the average (as stated above.) being 38 bushels, and the yield 15,021.801 bushels. The previous season the figures were respeetivelv 351,020 acres, average 31 bushels, and yield 11.201,780 bushels. Olago had an easy lead, beating ths next best, 'Canterbury, by over two million bushels.
Lasl year's crop of barlev was 1,103,4(111 bushels. oIV 3(1,177 acres', an average. I of 32 bushels. The previous season the totals were less, being 3.12105 acres, average 31 bushels, giving a lolul of ].H3.-i.34(i bushel-. The Canlerburv district was the largest contributor,' with Marlborough next.
