Monitors stated that the time was ripe for the introduction i legislation to assist (lieu in their work, since at present the societies could only proceed under one clause of the t'olice Oll'eni-cs Act. Jt was urged that there was also need tor reform in slaughtering methods, especially the abolition of pithing of cattle. Amongst other things the deputation asked that the work carried On by the societies should be subsidised by the Government. The Minister suggested that private members should lie induced to introduce Hill upon lines agreeable to the conlei'ence. The matter of subsidies was one that his colleagues w'ould have to i ileal with.
