A Mokitika wire states / that ex-Cap-tain If. Iv. Michel, of the Hokitika Fire Brigade tor twenty-seven consecutive years, ex-president of the United Fire Brigades Association, and now chairman of the recently-constituted Fire Board, was entertained at a "social" last evening by members of the Fire Brigade, and presented with a beautiful illuminated address, -Ml 1 . George lleslop, well known amongst agriculturists as the manager of Mr. Newton King's Bell Block farm, has joined an auctioneering firm at Waipukurait. lie was with Mr. King for Jive years, and had much to do with the building up of that magnificent Holstein herd which has for years brought repeated honors to their owner from various prize-rings. The stock reared and tended by him have secured at North Island shows eleven championships, fifty - three firsts, nineteen seconds, awl seven specials—an enviable record, lie is succeeded by Mr. W. James, a recent arrival from Worcestershire, and a successful exhibitor of horseflesh' at Home, besides having considerable qualifications with regard to show cattle. .Mr. 11. Bruce, of the borough electrical staff, who was injured a few weeks ago by collision with a motorcar, has been advised by an Auckland doctor that he must take 11 month's complete rest. Mr. H. D. Caplen, of Hawcra, is 011 a visit to New Plymouth. Mr. F. Bellringei- and Mr. C. Lepper, who have been representing the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board at the conference in Wellington, returned to New Plymouth 011 Saturday evening.
