The prisoner, Philip White, wuo is Serving a long sentence for holding up a jeweller's shop in Christchurch, and was recently committed to the Sunnyside Jlental Hospital as insane, has now been certified as sane, and was taken back to Lyttelton this afternoon. White w.is handcuffed to another prisoner, the two being in charge of two constables. On reaching the Christchurch platform to catch the train at 2.45 p.m., White slipped his hand from the irons and rushed into Moorhousc Avenue. One of the constables made chase after White, who ia front- of the Grosvenor Hotel was tripped by a pedestrian, and then seized by the policeman. White resisted strongly, but was got on board the tram and subsequently lodged in the gaot.
