KAIIOTU. A lad named Urr, residing at I'uugaleliu, had ail exciting experience on Tuesday afternoon whilst driving in to liuhotu. He was driving along the main road when his horse got, out of hand, and, turning the Kaliui road corner at a go Hop and too sharply, capsized tlie gig throwing the occupant out. The horse dragged the gig along lor about- half a chain, before the liarm=s gave way and freed it. it then bolted down the road, but was soon captured. Young Orr escaped unhurt, and the vehicle was only slightly damaged. On" Tuesday evening Major tllover, chief secretary for the Salvation Army social movement in New Zealand, accompanied by .Major and Ill's. Stone, of Klthain, and ilrs. I'ascoe, held a meeting in the Salvation Army barracks ■ here. It is now some time since there was au Army meeting, the officers having been withdrawn from here. There wai a good attendance. Mr. T. I'. Hughsoii presided and introduced the speaker-. .Mrs. Stone gave an address in connection with some special cases that came under her own observation whilst engaged in rescue work some touching cases being related. -Major I-'lover gave a .spirited address, giving a resume of work eli'ected in Java, where the tfovcrnnient had called liim to take in hand the work and had subsidised it. A committee <»f gentlemen is to he appointed by I he hall committee at its next meeting, and a general meeting will he held on -lilly fith to arrange details.
