AUSTRALIAN POLITICS.
OLD-AGE PENSIONS. Melbourne, June 3. At an early hour this morning the Old Age Pension Bill was presented m the Federal Parliament. It provides for every person who has attained the age of 05, or those who, being incapacitated from work have attained the age of 00, also all women who have reached the age of 00 to receive a pension. Provision is also made for invalids' pensions to come into operation by_ a subsequent proclamation, under which every person above the age of 111 who is permanently incapacitated shall receive a pension. The amount of pension has been fixed at .C2(i per annum. It is understood tjtat the annual cost of the scheme will be £1,800,000.
FEDERAL AND STATE FINANCES. Melbourne, June 3. In the Federal House of Representatives the second reading of the Surplus Revenue Bill has been carried.
