He declared this was a breach of the conditions whereon Diniznlu had been permitted to return to Zululand and inflicted a hardship on the prisoner who had in addition been involved in much expense owing to the prolongation of his trial. However, inasmuch as legal points were involved and the matter had been rnferrejl t 0 the Supreme Court, the Court's decision must he awaited. In the House of Commons Lieut.-Coi. Soely, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, iu reply to Sir H. Cotton, said the Natal Government contended that the arrest of Diniznlu as a Government induna with a view to criminal proceedings implied his suspension from the Government service and that involved suspending bis salary. The Natal Government has authorised lteuter'« agent to explain that the Imperial sanction of Dinizulu's removal from Zululand was interpreted as covering the suspension of his salary. Such suspension was in accordance with the ' Civil Service regulations regarding oithI cr blacks or whites.
