EMPIRE DAY.
IN THE OLD COUNTRY. London, May 25. Umpire Day was celebrated yesterday by the display of many flags and thousands of pulpit references in London and provincial churches. There are many signs of popular dissatisfaction over the Government's refusal to ollieially recognise the day. Received 20th, 12.10 a.m. London, May 20. Three thousand Windsor scholars picnicked on tho Royal grounds, Mr. Carrutliers, ox-Premier of New South Wales, presented a' flag from Windsor (New South Wales), stating that two million Australian children saluted tile Union Jack on Empire Day.
AUSTRALIAN CELEBRATIONS. • Sydney, May 20. The Empire Day celebrations included illuminations of the warships* At Parramatta school, where tlio children delivered speeches, a eadet complained that there was not sufficient ammunition provided to salute the flag, and it had to be done with Chinese 1 , crackers. He added: "I tell you, we. cadets are getting pretty disheartened."
The day was enthusiastically cult'brated in the other States, Received 27th, 12.55 a.m. Brisbane, May 20. The railway and works team at Toowong scored 807 for the Daily Mail Cup.
