May 7. ftom the crow-examination of Mr. DeaSin at the Premier-' Conference there appears to be little chance of the Conference entertaining the Commonwealth Government's financial proposals. Mr. Deakin stated that he would be pleased to consider any alternative scheme brought forward or to reconsider any part of his scheme. STILL UNDER DISCUSSION. Received Bth, 1.12 a.m. Melbourne May 7. The Premiers discussed the financial proposals at length, the speeches being generally opposed to acceptance. The debate was adjourned without any decision being arrived at.
