INDIAN FRONTIER RISING.
MOHMANDS MARCHING ON PESHAWAR. MULLAH INCITING FANATICISM. Calcutta, April 23. A strong force of Mohmands is within twenty-miles of Peshawar. Telegraph wires between Shahkaddur and Peshawar have been cut. | Hazrat Sahib, a renowned Afghan Mullah, has reached Shahbaz, and is actively inciting fanaticism among the tribesmen.
TRIBESMEN STRONGLY REINFORCED. MOBILISATION OF TROOPS '., ORDERED. Received, April 24, 10.30 p.m. Calcutta, April 24. More bodies of so-called Afghans, numbering several thousands, belonging to the Ningrabari and Shinwari tribes, have crossed the Kabul river and Joined the Mohmands. The Ameer's authority, which is shadowy in relation to thenr, was not asserted, and the mullahs' influence is growing rapidly. The mobilisation of troops has been ordered. LENIENCY MISTAKEN FOR WEAKNESS. Received April 24, 10.30 p.m. London, April 24. Ruuter reports that the general opin- , ion in Northern India is that the policy of withdrawal pursued in the case of the recent expedition against the Zakka Khels is largely responsible for the situation. Some frontier tribes imagine that Britain is afraid of offending the Ameer. Earl Minto returns to Simla forthwith.
