A DUNEDIX CASE. DEPLORABLE STATE OF AFFAIRS. Per Press Association. Duncdin, Last Night. An inquest on the body of William Vivian Garick. aged 4i/ 2 months, who died in the Karitane Home on Saturday was held to-day. Evidence disclosed a deplorable state of affairs, showing--that nine people were living in a three-room-ed tenement, which was described by a medical witness as being in an indescribably filthy condition. The child was born on November 24th, and was taken to a home in Forth street, where it was fefl on humanised milk for 15 days. The child -was affterwards taken to its mother's home, where humanised milk treatment was continued, but the child subsequently was fed on cows' milk, mixed with water, and also other food, the reason alleged for the change lieing that the child did not thrive on humanised milk. The jury returned a verdict to the effect that death was due to acute indigestion produced by improper feeding, the opinion also lieing expressed that insanitary surroundings had contri- I buted to some extent to the child's death.
