THE STRANDED BULGARIANS.
MISLEADING MISREPKESENTATIONS. Received 15th, 12.28 a.m. Melbourne, February 14. Mr. Bent informed the Federal Senate that the stranded Bulgarians came out as a result of wicked and misleading representations of certain unscrupulous agents whom it was impossible to identify. The agents had guaranteed to land them in New Zealand or Australia but was not responsible if either Go> vernment objected to their landing! They have no right to claim their passage money back. The Bulgarians were Informed that they would get work as soon as they landed, payment at the rate of £1 per day being guaranteed I until they secured work".
Mr. Bent added tfcat even if the Go j vernment could discover the agents, he questioned whether it would have dnycontrol over them. The Government, he said, was making enquiries in the mat j ter.
