SHIPBUILDING STRIKE. London, January 22. Hundreds of members of the Federated Shipbuiding Trades Unions of the north-oast of England have struck against an immediate Is per week reduction in the time rates and a further proposed reduction in March. THE LONDON TIMES. London, January 22. The Pall Mall Gazette states that the new directorate of the London Times will be composed of three members of the Walters family, Sir Edward Tennant, and Mr C. A. Pearson.
THE ART EXHIBITION. London, January 22. A deputation from (he Royal British ami Colonial Society of Artists interviewed the Hon. J. W. Tavcrner, Agent-General for Victoria, and complained of a breach of faith implied in the report that the Victorian Government intended to prohibit the sale of pictures sent to Mr Joshua Lake for exhibition in Melbourne. The society had approached its members on the understanding that pictures exhibited in Australia would be for sale in the usual way.
