FARMERS IN DIRE STRAITS. Sydney, January 22. South coast farmers are in dire straits through want of rain, 'i'he Sydney milk supply is threatened. The price has been raised to Od per quart. RECOVERY OF A GUARANTEE. Melbourne, January 23. The Federal Government has issued a writ to recover the guarantee £25,000 given by the Laing syndicate in tendering for the mail contract, which the syndicate was unable to fulfil.
A PREMATURE EXPLOSION. Perth, January 23. A premature explosion at the Associated Mine at Kalgoorlie badly injured two men. One, a contractor named Watson, had both eyes blown out.
