TRANSIT IN THE HUTT VALLEY. Wellington, Last Night. A meeting of representative* of Lower Hutt and Petone boroughs and also residents of the Hutt Valley was held this evening to consider the prospects of installing a system of electric traction and lighting to serve the Hutt Valley. A proposal was submitted to the meeting estimating the cost of the joint scheme at £BO,OOO, and providing for sinking fund and contingencies. An offer was made by a number of gentlemen interested in the district that if the scheme as outlined were undertaken by the corporation interested they would be prepared to guarantee up to £20,000 to provide for any loss incurred during the operations of the first ten years. After the matter had been discussed the meeting decided to refer the proposal to a joint committee, with power to obtain expert advice and to report to a subsequent meeting to be held within three weeks' time.
