Ciiptain Hood, harbormaster, left for Auckland on Wednesday evening. Mr T. Hutchinson, S.M., and Mrs Hutchinson, are spending a few days here. They leave shortly for Oamaru, to wliich town Mr Hutchinson has been transferred.

A quiet wedding took" place at the residence of Mr P. Potts at Cambridge on Monday, the contracting parties being Mr Joseph Edward, third son of Mr U Potts, of Eltham, and Hise T-yiia Frances K. MeSweency, daughter of Afrs MeSweeney, of Mangatoki, Taranaki. Mr. Win. Potts, brother of the bridegroom, fulfilled the duties of best, man, and Miss Dorothy Potts, niece of the bridegroom, was the bridesmaid. The officiating minister was the Rev. W. J. flow, of Trinity Presbyterian Church. The late Mr Joseph Charles Nathan, who died at Palmeraton 011 Tuesday, had an adventurous youth, says a Pa'lmcrston exchange. When only' lß year#
ot age he joined the Wanganui Rangers, (luring the progress of the Maori war, and went with his company on an expedition to Pipiriki for the relief of Major Brassev. After that, he formed part of the expedition to Opotiki to arrest the murdorcrfi of the Rev. Faulkner, and was subsequently in charge of the guard that took the prisoners to Auckland. Mr Nathan served for two years nn the Fast Coast, and whilst there went through several engagements. At 21 rears of acre he joined the Wanganui Cavalry and saw active service at TCakaramea, where a bullet passed through his hat. and at Nnkuniaru. where Rergt. Maxwell was killed.
