OPUNAKE CALEDONIAN SPORTS.
The eleventh annual sports gathering under the auspices ot the Opunake Cale° donian Society took place at Opunake on Boxing Day, and proved most successful. Although the fields were not numerous in the running events, there were some interesting finishes. The high jump proved very interesting. Deegan, who was giving away five inches' start. winning with the fine jump of sft S'/Jn. The juvenile dancing caused very keen competition. All the officials worked hard, but a special word of praise is due to the popular secretary. Mr. 1). Ross, for the roiiipletrne?* of his arrangements, everything working smoothly. In the evening a mo-t suece—ful concert was given, an excellent programme being rendered.
A reminder is given athletes ami "down-the-coast" residents of the big .oa-tal attraction on New Year's Day at Kahotu—the Athletic Club's sports. The programme is a most attractive one to competitors and spectators alike, and the committee should get their reward in record taking*.
