WELLINGTON HARBOR BOARD AND UNION STEAMSHIP COMPANY.
Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Tlie Wellington Harbor Board held 11 special meeting this afternoon to consider the Evans Bay reclamation scheme, also the Board's position in regard to tlie patent slip, and its determination to purchase the same compulsorily or otherwise. A letter was read from the Union Company asking whether, in the event of an amicable arrangement being arrived at between the proprietors of tho Patent Slip Company and the Harbor Board by which the latter will be enabled to acquire the property of the lormer, it is the intention of the Board to proceed at once with the work of reclaiming in connection therewith, and also whether the Board will undertake to provide the I'uion Company with a sullicient area of ground on the site of such reclamation for workshops, etc., and with wharf accommodation suitable for ils purposes. The chairman said he had prepared a. memorandum which dealt with the whole question. It was decided to go into committee to consider what answer should be sent to the company. Ou resuming in open Board, it was reported that the committee had come to the conclusion that it should be left in the hands of the secretary to ascertain what the company required.
