A peculiar case 01 1111 award of the Arbitration Court overriding an Act wa» brought under notice to-day, when three local, hairdressers were charged with breaches of the Shop Assistants Act iu employing their assistant hairdressers longer hours than 52 per week. It appears that in Wellington, where hairdressers work under an award of the Arbitration Court, the number of hours fixed is jo per week, but in Napier there is no award for this trade, and tlie ■Magistrate held that the hairdressers came under the provisions of the Shop Assistants Act, in which the maximum number of hours is staled at 52 per week.
