The Manawatu Daily Times states tliil a number of bookmakers have applied to the Manawatu Racing "Club for licenses for the forthcoming meeting, am! tint on these licenses being granted, on" of the bookmakers will pay the nerGssarv fees in order to object to the regulations, particularly those requiring | them to remain within an enclosure and J closing them down for five minutes before a race; and should the club insist ou the regulations being observed, it is the intention of the bookmakers to bring a case lieforo the Supreme Court. Mi" " illoril, on behalf of the bookmakers, has written to the Manawatu Club denying that the Act gives power to restrict those who may be licensed in the manner proposed.
| TARANAKI METROPOLITAN COMMIITTEE. A meeting of the Tarauaki Metropolitan Committee as held on Tuesday night. Mr. F. Wat on presided. There were also present Messrs. lllundeli, Ellis, tioldwater, Kinc, Lepper, Standish, Sole, Weston, and Vi > lister. it was unanimously decided to ask the Hon. O. Samuel to represent the club at the meeting of the Racing Conference to be held in January. The jockey's license granted to E. Murtagh was cancelled.
The programmes of the Opunake Lacing Club for I/th March and Manaia Hack Racing Cluo for Ist April were appruved.
Gentlemen riders' certificates were grantea to G. Adams, J. Brown, mown, U. George, C. Matthews, L. 11. I'iltt, and I'. W. trainers' licenses to H. Francis (llawera), B, RusseU (New Plymouth), and J. James (Stratford); jockeys' licenses to 0. Cox, L. Danahay, A. V\ nigate, and 10.. late. A letter was received iroin the Racing Conference as to the advisability ol altering the name of the U'ailii Spurts Club, i'lie committee decided to take no action.
XAKAXAKI JOCKEY CLUB. A meeting of the Taranaki Jockey Club committee was livid subsequently, the same gentlemen being present. it was decided to grant Uuokmakers' licenses subject to certain conditions. An application was received from the Agricultural Society for the further use ol ihe'raeecours-c for the sports to be held on llith January,—Granted.

Some interesting work was done on the Kllerslie tracks on Tuesday morning. Downfall pleased tiie watchers by the way he skipped over a mile on the course proper. Artillerie and Flcettoot spurted four furlongs in taking style. Bobrikolf did, steady work ou the tan. Carl much too good for Pohutu over once round, and Paritntu got over the Same ground in fast time. Mahuta cantered a mile anil then brushed over a round of the tan in lmin ."i!)Reo. Master Deluval settled UTihinder and First film over tile same course. Bonny Glen put up a slashing gallop over a mile, moving
well. St. Aiden, Diamond Star, Finery, Chartreuse, Projectile, and General Soult each spurted over four furlongs. Zimmerman and Dawn were associated in a mile gallop, and are apparently in good nick. Shrapnel is amiss and Cambrian is under a cloud.
