EMPLOYERS' ASSOCIATION.

A general meeting of the Employers' Association was held in the Council Chambers last eveiiiny, Air. 11. Uoodacre (president) iu the chair.

-Messrs. Alalone and Webster were present as a deputation from the Agri- | cultural Society, and asked that the tradespeople uf the town lie rccruested to close their business premises at 12 noon on the Kith of January next, as it was the intention of the society to have special attractions on the racecourse to help to wipe cut the dclicit caused by the very bad weather on show-day. Specially attractive events have been arranged so that townspeople as well as country people may be sure of a good day's enjoyment. The request was unanimously agreed *o. Christmas and New Year holidays were recommended as follows:—Christmas Day, Uoxiig Day, New Year's Day, and the 2nd o;:' January. On the latter date the Australian cricketers will visit New Plymouth.

The amendments to the Shops and Factories Act were reviewed and discussed. In view of the liauty manner in which important labor legislation has been rushed through in the closing days of the session, it was resolved to ask the Employers' Federation to invite all affiliated societies to request the members to strongly oppose the passing of important measures at the close of the session.
