Mr. Coom's retirement does not take place until 'list March, but he has been given three months' leave of absence, lie will therefore cease worksi t the New Year. Mr. V. W. McLean, District Engineer at Dunedin, succeeds Mr. Burnett as Inspecting Engineer. Tt is understood that Mr. Hunter Macandrcw, District Engineer at Cbristclmrch, will fill Mr. McLean's place here.
