M., with Mrs. Hutchison and family, returned to New Zealand by U u , Mahcno on Thursday, alter all absence of eight months in Britain and elsewhere. They were expcted to leave Wellington for Now Plymouth almost immediately. _ A Press wire from Dunedin states that in consequence of the resignation of Mr. •/. Coom, Chief Engineer for Working Railways, Mr. ,1. Burnett, Inspecting Engineer, will be promoted to the vacant position. Mr. Coom's retirement does not take place until 'list March, but he has been given three months' leave of absence, lie will therefore cease worksi t the New Year. Mr. V. W. McLean, District Engineer at Dunedin, succeeds Mr. Burnett as Inspecting Engineer. Tt is understood that Mr. Hunter Macandrcw, District Engineer at Cbristclmrch, will fill Mr. McLean's place here.
