SWIMMING SPORTS.

The New Plymouth Swimming Club experienced its usual bad luck in the mailer of neather last night, when sports were held in the municipal baths. About a hundred people attended and watched the programme through, sheltering in the dressing-room doorways and under the verandahs. But the rain had a depressing ell'eet upon the spectators, who nevertheless did their part better than some of tlie competitors—members of the club—who declined to strip, evidently fea|ring that they would get wet. Good sport was provided, the junior swimming races arousing no little interest. Mr. W. Lints was handicappcr, starter, timekeeper, judge, and general supervisor, assisted by Messrs. Swanson, Stockcr, and Ogilvie. The club secretary, Mr. A, L. Dixon, handed over everything in working order to the sports officials before lie entered the water. His frequent appearance in the various contests precluded Ills carrying out secretarial work during the evening. The greasy boom item caused roars of laughter. An innovation was the competition for graceful swimming, and it is hoped to have such an item on future programmes. At the conclusion of the programme Messrs. Lints and Hark gave an exhibition of fancy diving. Results:—
