UNION COMPANY ENTERPRISE.
Per Press Association, ] Wellington, Tuesday. It is rumored that the Wellington patent slip has been bought by the Union Company- Both the Gas Company and the Harbor Board have been endeavoring to acquire it recently, without success. It is in Evans Bay and clone to the proposed reclamation, on which, it is hoped, room will be found for Wellington's foundries and other industries requiring space. The slip can accommodate vessels of up to two thousand tons burden. Wellington, Last Night.
The statement that the Union Company lias bought the patent slip at Wellington is confirmed, but the price is not mentioned. The Slip Company for a number of years received a subsidy under Act of Parliament, but this lapsed some time ago;. It is expected the Union Company will go to considerable expense in adding a wharf and improved appliances at the site, which is close to that portion of Evans Bay which is to lie reclaimed. The Wellington papers are hinting that the—purchase, coining just when this undertaking was decided on, foreshadows the removing of the Union Company's headquarters to Wellington. .
