THE LAW OF LIBEL.
Per Press Association. Wellington, Monday. I In the Legislative Council this morning the Hon. Mr. Sinclair asked the At-torney-General whether the Government * during the recess would take info consideration the exiting state of the law of libel in New Zealand, with a view to introducing legislation next session to bring it into line with the statute law of England, paHicularly in regard totha consolidation of actions against newspapers. He wanted to get at what were known as "chain libel actions against newspapers. The Attorney-General replied that he recognised the importance of the question, and he would impress on his colleagues the desirability of amending the law in the direction indicated. ,
