HOW NOT TO DO IT. Don't start for the dealer's until you know ijr-'.t you want. Don't pay more than you expee f ed became the dealer coaxed you. Don't buy a type of horse that will be useless tor the purpose intended because you like his looks. Dour take a dealer's word that little swelling is of no account—that it will come all right in a day or two; for it won't. Don't imagine you can get the better of a horse deal, for you can't. Don't try to take the place of a veterinary, J'or you can't. Dont ride behind a horse to find out whether he is what you want. Watch him from the ground. Dont think you can tell the age o£ a horse by his teeth, because you can't. Dont take the word of any man about a horse till you know' what his interest is. Dont expect to get a cheap horse that will be a good one, for you won't, Charles P. Lowyer, in "Country Life in America."
