MAXIM GORKY'S EARNINGS.
-MADE £2O,VOV A i'EAR AND HAVE XIB,UUU TO KEV'OLU'im'AKliiS. New l'ork, September 17. Society here is greatly interested in the story told by Mr Harold AlcUrutli, the author, who has just returned from a tour of Europe, ot a meeting lie lmd with the famous ilussian writer, Maxim Corky on the island of Capri. Mr McCrath slated that lie had heard that within the past year Corky had made a prolit of „120,1)UU on his writings, and of this amount had handed over £IB,UUO to the funds of the ltussian revolutionaries. Corky, it appears, has changed his views on matrimony. it will bo remembered that when Corky came to New l'ork to collect funds for the Russian revolutionaries he was accompanied by Mile. Andveieva, who was at lirst thought to be his wife. When it was discovered that the lady was not his wife, society boycotted the pair, and they eventually left the country. .Ml' MeGrath now says that Corky informed him that he had gone through the marriage coivimn;/ with .Mile. Andreieva, as their views un the subject had undergone a great change. "Indeed," he added, "from the conversation 1 had with (lorky he seemed to keenly regret that he took his present wife to America with him without having tin; marriage ceremony performed. ' lie sinned in ignorance, however, aud the . society boycott came to both of them as a surprise."
