-Mr. Atkinson McDowell, who has been Collector of Customs at fnvercargill for six years, retires on pension as from April, with the usual three months' leave prior to that date. Mr. McDowell has bad forty-four years' service in the Department, serving at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Lyttelton, and Oeymouth. lie proposes (says a Press Association wire) to settle in Canterbury. A London Press Association message announces the death of Mr. Lewis -McLeod, a late Cambridge footballer. Mr. McLeod was lor several years a' prominent Scottish international Rugby player, in the three-quarter, line. He played for Scotland against the New Zcalanders last year, when tile All Blacks were successful. McLeod was about twenty-eight years of age. His brother, K. G. McLeod, is also an international Rugby player.

The death occurred on Thursday of Mrs. Agnew (Minnie) McCluggage, wife of Mr. Agnew McCluggage, of the well- ' known firm of Messrs. McCluggage Bros., of Wiianga momona. The late Mrs. McCluggage was the second daughter of Mr. William Cleaver, of Te Roti, and was only twenty-six years of age. Great sympathy is expressed for the bereaved husband, who has onlv been married about six months.—Stratford Post.
