CADET RIFLE MATCHES

NEW CONDITIONS. Per Press Association. Wellington, Thursday. The Secretary for Education has issued a circular to public school cadet corns on the subject of target practice and competitions. To earn capitation every cadet must fire the course of target practice detailed under the head of class firing, and every cadet company must compete for one of the "shields and one of the cups mentioned below, I unless in each case inabiltiy is shown to I the satisfaction of the Minister. Four cups presented by the Colonial Ammunition Company are allotted for the present to combined education districts, as follows:—One for Auckland and Hawke's Bay, one for Taranaki, Wanganui and Wellington, one for Nelson, Marlborough, Grey, Westland, and North and South Canterbury, one for Otago and Southland. The competition is open to all public school cadets, including district high school cadets. The competition for tho North Island and South Island Challenge Shields presented by the Government Is restricted to public schools other than high schools, and that for the North Island and South Island Challenge Shields, presented by the Weekly Press to district high schools. Competing tennis are to consist of ten cadets, all of whom are to be members of the same company or detachment. The following general conditions apply to class firing and shield competitions:—Targets 4ft, 4in bull'seye, Ift diameter of inner, 2ft diameter of outer. Distances anil positions—100yds standing, 150 yds kneeling, 200 yds lying. Number of shots at each range, seven; one sighter allowed at each range. Drill officers cannot compete. Firing for all competitions to take place on or before December 13th next. : , ; . i jjjg: :^
