THE OAONUI SCHOOL.
Recently there was some dissatisfaction at Oaonui consequent upon the discontinuance of the conveyance of children to the school. Mr. C. Henderson forwarded a long explanation' to the Education Board yesterday. He said he had had no intention of taking tlic cart oil the road until a member of the committee stopped his four children from riding in the cart without giving any notice or explanation. On account of illness the number of scholars riding in the cart for the last two or three months had been only nine, and of tliesc three were carried free. When flic four were withdrawn his only passengers were his own three children, and Lliey were immediately afterwards laid up from measles. He had informed the teacher and the Board's secretary of his intention to discontinue the service. The Health Inspector had quarantined the cart. ''l wonder," he wrote, "if the committee will pay me for all the time the. cart has been idle.' He considered lie was £l2 out of pocket by the service. Many of the settlers were indignant at the suggestion that he should refund the money raised for him at a concert, for that benefit concert was arranged not on account of his conveyance of the children, but on account of his having met with an accident which rendered his right arm almost useless for life. He was very grateful to those who had assisted, but it was very hard for a man to accept charity and then have it thrown in his face. He had not had a single complaint plaints had been made second-hand. "They were not men enough to make one to me."—The Board accepted the about his work, although some cornexplanation as satisfactory.
