A LUGGAGE THIEF
Per Press Association. Dunedin, Last Ni'ght. At the Police Court to-day James .McCarthy appeared to answer to four charges of theft—namely, on 19th September, a gladstone bag and contents valued at £lO, the property of Charles Henry Woodcock; on 24th September, a portmanteau and contents, valued at £lB 14s, the property of Andrew Gardner; on 25tli September, a gladstone bag and contents, valued at £lO, the property of Frederick Smith; and on 28th September, a gladstone bag and contents, valued at £0 10s, the property of Claud Howard Belsham. On the first charge the accused was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, and on the others he was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence, a plea of guilty being entered in each case. The police stated that tlio complainants were passengers by the express trains. Before they could secure their luggage from the train the accused came along and picked up the bags and made away with them.
