RIFLE SHOOTING

THE TEENTHAM PROGRAMME. Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The draft programme of the Trentham, Rifle Meeting is now ready to be published as soon as approved. The champion prize, with, the belt, is increased to £SO. A special match for rifle club men, to be fired simultaneously with the volunteer match, has been added to the programme, but otherwise it is on the same lines as last year. If a team is required for Bialey a special series of matches will be fired to decide .its personnel. Competitors will be permitted to use the new wind-gaugs slide as provided by the Imperial liVar Oflice and used at the last Bislty meeting. The Government has cabled for a, supply. Pull of trigger can be reduced to five instead of ten pounds. Some alteration will be made in the targets at 200 and 300 yards. They will be 4ft x 4ft, with bull's eye Bin, inner 16in, magpie 24in. The inner is divided from the bull's eye by a faint white line not visible to the firer. The range ib in excellent order. Many improvements have been effected during the recess. The firing-mounds have been levelled -and sown in grass, and where this could not be done new turf has been laid.

The new wind-gauge slide mentioned is provided with two "V" notches, ono for use with the leaf down andVone for use with the leaf up. The slide is joined to the, elevation slide by means of a dovetail groove, and is capable of being adjusted laterally to allow for wind. A scale is marked on the back edge of the slide, each division of which giveß an allowance of six per 100 yards. This sliding bar is undoubtedly of a very serviceable pattern. Adjustment is easy, quick and certain. It will fit on any back sight of the regulation size, VOLUNTEERS y. RIFLEMEN. !

The rifle match between representative teams of volunteers and rifle club members on Thursday at the Rewa Rewa range did not result in any great satisfaction to either side or in the registering of many good scores, on account of. the boisterous weather. Half a gale of wind was blowing, and it was very variable at times. During the day it varied from seven feet right to eight feet left, and on one occasion it shifted from five feet right to dead in less than five minutes. At the nest range it came from the left. With such changing wind and sky some of the competitiors gave anything but a satisfactory account of themselves, two men missing the target altogether at the 600 yards range. The riflemen were four men short, and the volunteers two. Several of the visitors remarked on the neglected state of the *ange, and contrasted it with the better equipped ono at Stratford, where they hoped any fixture matches, would be fired The volunteers at the finish led by 310 points, the totals being 1058 and 748. The details of the scoring are as VOLUNTEERS. f "' a "*
