An instance of this cropped up at the Clifton Count v Cotineil meeting yesterday, when the chairni.in read the following letter which he had received from Mr. J. 1!. Row the county solicitor: —-In view of the opinion recently indicated to me that tho Council consider.-, the time has now arrived when its legal work should be done by a solicitor resident in Waiiara, I have the honor to reign my appointment a, county .solicitor, which I have liehl since IS!)I. Ido so with special regret, as I have always taken a deep interest in the welfare of (he county and in tlu> performance of its lc.'al workIn taking farewell I desire to express my thanks for the kindly courtesy which has invariably been shown to 'me by yourself and by the other members of the Council, and also for the valuable and willing assistance which I have always received from Mr. Vauglian, the county clerk, and from Mr. Dim-sett, the county engineer, in connection with matters: relating to their respective departments in which I have had to confer with them." The chairman said Mr. Roy fully un-der-tood Hint there was no dissatisfaction with his services, but the councillors \n:vv of opinion that it was fair to cmploy a local man.
