at the office for some days. Mr. William Davidson, D 3 (Ilawkes Bay), has been appointed second assistant teacher at the Central School, in succession to Mr. Cockroft. A Press wire states that, the Government has appointed Mr E. P. Turner, of Christehurclf, as inspector ot scenic and historic reserves. He will commence his duties oil the reserves in Iff! .South Island, afterwards turning h's attention to the North. Billy Murphy, the well-known feather- I weight pugilist, went North to Auckland by the Rarawa last night. It is his intention to endeavour to arrange a nint.'h with some of the Northern men of his own class, to take place either at New Plymouth or Stratford. Should he nol be able to conic to terms with a feather or light weight representative, he talks of arranging a match with Ross, a wellknown middle-weight exponent.
