A HANDSOME GIFT.
The handsome ornamental lamp and fountain presented to the borough is now Hearing completion. It has been erected on the Esplanade at its junction with Dawson street, and is certainly an ornament to that much-frequented resort. Above the steppeU concrete foundations is the base of the structure proper, iu Maitland freestone, brown in color. The cupola, arched in similar stone, stands on four round pillars of granite, and on the northern aspect are carved the words "Tho gift of Alice Brown Honeyfield, 1907." In the centre of the structure is a white marble bowl, on a pedestal of red granite, aiid from this rises the pipe for the fountain, water being derived from the borough mains. Above the masonry, and rising to a height of nearly thirty feet from the ground level, is an iron lamp-post, the lamp itself being illuminated by three incandescent electric bulbs. The town has certainly benefited by the generosity of Mrs Honeyfield, a former resident, who is not at present in the colony. The gift was made on her behalf by Mr W. L. Newman, who has supervised its election.
