DEFENCE NOTES.
By "Artillery."
Givat dissatisfaction has often been expressed concerning the method of payment for daylight parades. A new regulation just issued provides that personal payment is to be made to every officer, non-commissioned officer, and man on parade at approved daylight battalion parades, irrespective of the proportion of strength or the total number present. Til the past payment has been subject to an attendance of at least half-strength. Local volunteers are wondering why Lieutenant Humphries, of the Taranaki Rifles, has not been included in the Nov Zealand rillc team for Australia. As champion shot in the North Island for two years, onr local man should have been selected, surely. Ilis record right through his shooting career has been very consistent.
