ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Per Press Association. ' Auckland, August 20. During the passage of the Victoria from Sydney to Auckland, G. W. Binney, a well-known Auckland merclunt, met with a serious accident about eight o'clock- on Friday night. Mr Binney, who had been on deck, came into the social hall with a pile of rugs 011 his arm. The weather was very rough at the time, and when Mr Binney reached the top of the companion way he stumbled and fell to the bottom of the stairs, where he was picked up unconscious. Fortunately Dr. 'Savage was on board, and was n.ble to give temporary relief to the sufferer, who was ba'lly cut about the head. Mr Binney remained unconscious for 30 hours,after which he regained the use of his reason for brief intervals. He is still in a semiconscious condition. Dunedin, August 28. At the inqust on Wm. Darragh, the boatswain who died suddenly on Saturday evening, the medical evidcmc? showed that deceased suffered from valvular disease of the heart, death being due to heart failure. The jury returned a verdict accordingly.
