DEPARTMENTAL DELAY REFUTED.

In reply to the complaint made by the Otago Education Board that no reply had been received for three months to requests for new schools or additions, the Minister of Education states that the Board made three applications. The first two were duly replied to. The third related to the Forbury School. The Board first applied for the enlargment of the residence. An answer was sent on May 14. The Board on June 26 withdiew its first proposal and substituted a more ambitious one. Additional particulars were sent on July 5. These proposals were dealt with on August 15. There was no delay whatever beyond that necessary to obtain information required in public interests.
