FIRES.
Per Press Association. •Hamilton, August 25. About ten o'clock last evening a fire broke out in a block of buildings in \ U-toria Street, owned by Hardley Bros and occupied by Deacon, tobacconistPurcell, tailor; Hantaan and Curtis, pork butchers; and J. B. Scott, land agent. Before the flames were subdued, all the shops were gutted, and most of the contents destroyed or ruined by smoke and water. The adjoining- premises of Gummeridge and Pocock, ironmongers, and Dr. Going were for a time threatened with destruction, but the brigade succeeded in confining the fire Haidley Bros, had an insurance of £OOO on the bu.ld.ngs, but the tenants were a.) uninsured.
