The Archbishop of Canterbury insisted that there was no popular demand for the Bill. Lord James of Hereford and Lord Loreburn supported the measure. EVICTED TENANTS BILL. London, August 21. The House of Commons sat all night discussing the Irish Evicted Tenants Bill. The House disagreed with several of tho amendments made by the House of Lords—notably that limiting to 2000 the number of evicted tenants to be reinstated. The Government agreed to an amende [numt that the provisions of the Bill i relating to compulsory acquisition of [land and the determination of present i tenancies to make room for the evicted tenants should not oome into operation for four years, instead of three.
