OTAGO HARBOR AND SOCK.

Per Press Association. Dunedin, August 8. At a special meeting of the Otago Harbor Board to-day a letter was received from Mr E. G. Allen, M-H.S, (chairman of the Otago Dock Trust) with reference to the proposed loan of £100,000). The writer suggested ihat the Board should take over the functions of the Otago Dock Trust in the near future, with a view of having included in the schedule of works proposed to be carried out from loan moneys, power to apply portion of such moneys to' the equipment of, and charges If any, in connection with the taking over by the Board of the new dock. The writer stated that when the proposal to raise the loan was introduced about five years ago, it was inferred at the discussion on the subject at the Board meeting that, in the event of £IOO,OOO being then borrowed, the Board could entertain tho question of taking over tho responsibilities of the Dock Trust. The Dock Trust also wrote, suggesting a conference between the two bodies to discuss the present position, and future prospects of the trust. After a lengthy discussion the Board decided to refer Mr Allen's letter to the Trust for further information, the writer having explained that the letter came from him is a privato individual.
