ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Per Press Association. Auckland, August 8. Mr D. A. Gray, of Northcote, and hii daughter, Misb Gray, wero driving in to catch a boat this morning, andjyjus jufit_. abreast/ vi -an embankment when the breaking of a bolt in the shaft caused 'the Horse to swerve so suddenly, that before Mr Gray could do anything to avert it, the horse, trap and occupants wero precipitated over the bank, a fall of nine or ten feet. In the fall Mr. Gray was struck on the head and rendered unconscious, but his daughter happily escaped with a Bevcre shaking. The services of Dr. Player were obtained, and he pronounced that no bones were broken. Mr Gray recovered consciousness during the morning, and is now progressing satisfactorily towards recovery. When the upset occurred, the liorsc kicked itself free of the buggy, and bolted home, while the vehicle itself was considerably damaged. Duneclin, August 8. James Banks Etheridge aged 08 years, residing in the city, was found dead in bed this morning. Death is supposed to be due to heart disease. Deceased went to bed in his usual health last evening, and Bpoke to his wife at 5 a.m., but was found dead about an hour later. Christchurch, August 8. At an inquest held to-night touching the death of George Smith, a commercial traveller, who died suddenly on the Christchurch railway platform yesterday shortly after his arrival from the south by the second express, a verdict was returned that death was due to syncope. r
