SCOW TIMBER TRADE.
■ Per Press Association. Auckland, July 27. A somewhat important shipping deal took place this week. The Ford Shipping Line, Ltd., purchased the whole of Mr George Niccol's fleet of scows, including one now building. The Ford Line will now consist of twelve of the most modern and up-to-date timbercarrying scows. The vessels purchased include the Curlew, Gannet, Seagull, Hanger, and Moa (now building). The Ford Line has contracted with the Kauri Timber Company for the carriage of all their 'timber from coastal ports to Auckland for a number of years. The contract includes towage of lops. Since the visit of the Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister for Marine, to Auckland, there has been renewed confidence in the. scow class of vessel. Whilst In Auckland, Mr Millar, after personal inspection and inquiry into scows, stated that he was perfectly satisfied as to their safety, and that his opinion of them had been decidedly altered.
