PROVINCIAL NEWS.
TATAUAIMAKA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Last, Tuesday evening a well-attended social was held in the school to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Foreman and Mr and .Mrs McAllum. Mr Foreman was presented with a lovely marble clo.k and Mr McAllum with a set of silvcruiuunted carvers. Jlr and .Mrs Foreman have lived in our district close upon fifty years. They will be much missed. They •trry with them the good wishes of everyone to their future home in the Okaiawa district, where he is retiring. Mr Wareh.im has old his farm and is going down south. Mr Clarke has also sold his farm on the Pi tone road. Land has gone up in value very much latelv. Xearly all of the old identities have gone *way, and new people have come into the district.
A terrible storm visited this part last Saturday night, unroofing several cowsheds, outhouses, etc, the remains of which are to he seen iving ;tll aloii" the road. • • b
An accident which might have been at tended with serious consequences was narrowly averted on ftaturdav night. A carrier returning from \ew' Plymouth si ruck the railings of the Katakura '■ridge. I think if would be advisable :W the fountr ( ~,,-il to take down some of the embankment on each siile of the bridge, so t|, at ,„,„„],, ( . a „ h . lw R better view when passing that part. As it is now. it is the most dangerous part "f the road. Several of the telegraph posts alongside the road have been blown down.
